In brief
- Beobank Visa Extra (EUR 20/year) is both the cheapest AND the only one with 1% cashback (capped at EUR 100/year).
- The gap between cheapest and priciest is only EUR 9/year: the annual fee is not the real issue.
- Non-euro fees are identical everywhere: 1.5%. No Belgian traditional bank goes below that.
- No classic card includes travel insurance: you need to move up (Gold, Platinum) or buy a package.

Frequently asked questions
Which Belgian bank has the cheapest credit card?
Beobank Visa Extra at EUR 20/year, with the first year free after your first payment. Next comes the Argenta Mastercard at EUR 24/year (free for 18-24 year olds).
Is Beobank's 1% cashback really worth it?
Yes, but it is capped at EUR 100 per calendar year and excludes cash withdrawals. The EUR 20 fee is covered from roughly EUR 2,000 of yearly card spending. Above EUR 10,000 of spending the cashback stops at EUR 100.
Why do all banks charge 1.5% outside the euro zone?
It is the standard currency-conversion charge applied by Belgian banks. Only neobanks (Revolut, N26) go down to 0%. If you often pay outside the euro zone, a traditional card alone is not enough.
What interest rate applies if I do not repay in full?
Between 9.50% (Belfius, ING) and 10.20% (Argenta). It only applies if you choose instalment repayment. Repay in full each month and you pay no interest at all.
Is a minimum income required for a credit card in Belgium?
Traditional banks generally ask for a regular income (around EUR 1,100 net/month) and a current account with them. Neobank cards have no minimum income requirement.
What should I do if my card is stolen?
Call Card Stop on 078 170 170, available 24/7, which blocks the card instantly. Then file a police report and notify your bank.
