Ranking of neobank cards in Belgium

Revolut, N26, Wise and bunq: the six most used plans in Belgium, ranked on annual cost, FX fees and withdrawal caps. Note: these are debit cards, not true credit cards.

Fees checked on 13 July 2026

In brief

  • Revolut Standard, N26 Standard and Wise charge no annual fee: start there.
  • 0% FX fees - but always with a limit: monthly cap at Revolut, withdrawal quota at N26.
  • Paid plans cost EUR 96 to 120/year: they are only justified by the travel insurance.
  • No neobank offers real instalment credit, nor reliable hotel/car-rental deposit holds.

Frequently asked questions

Revolut or N26: which to choose in Belgium?

N26 Standard applies no monthly FX cap on card payments, where Revolut Standard limits you to EUR 1,000/month before charging 0.5%. Revolut, however, allows more free withdrawals (EUR 200/month) and has a richer app. Pure payer: N26. Mixed use: Revolut.

Are neobanks safe in Belgium?

N26 and bunq hold a European banking licence with a EUR 100,000 deposit guarantee. Revolut operates under a Lithuanian banking licence. Wise is a payment institution: funds are safeguarded, but it is not a bank.

Can a neobank card replace my credit card?

No. These are debit cards: no instalment repayment, and some deposit holds (hotels, car rental) are refused. Keep a real Belgian credit card alongside.

Should I pay for a Premium plan?

Only if you travel outside the euro zone more than three times a year, or if the plan replaces an annual travel insurance policy you already pay for. Otherwise the free plans are enough.

Can I have my salary paid into a neobank account in Belgium?

Technically yes - Revolut now issues a Belgian IBAN (BE) to new accounts opened in Belgium. In practice, keep a Belgian account for direct debits and use the neobank as a supplement.
