Business account for a company (SRL) in Belgium: Qonto, Revolut or bank

Which pro account for a Belgian SRL? Qonto, Revolut Business and Belgian banks compared on IBAN, team cards and credit.

A Belgian company (SRL, SA) must open a bank account in its own name, separate from the director's private account. The choice is between a pro neobank like Qonto or Revolut Business and a traditional bank like KBC, CBC or BNP Paribas Fortis. The trap, for an SRL, is to copy a sole trader's choice: not every pro account accepts a company, and the IBAN and team management quickly weigh more than the headline price.

Which pro account should an SRL choose in Belgium?

For an SRL, no single account is perfect. Revolut Business wins on team cards and multi-currency, Qonto on accounting and invoicing, a Belgian bank on credit and the local IBAN. The right choice depends on the number of cards, the volume in foreign currencies and your financing needs.

The first question is not price but eligibility: a pro account that only opens in a natural person's name is out of the race for a company. Then comes the IBAN, then card management for employees, and only after that the monthly fee.

In practice, many SRLs open two accounts: a main account at a Belgian bank for the local IBAN and the credit relationship, and a neobank account for team cards and daily payments.

Why can't an SRL open an N26 Business account?

Because N26 Business is reserved for natural persons: sole traders and liberal professions. An SRL is a legal entity, legally distinct from its director, and N26 does not open accounts in the name of a legal entity.

Many founders discover this limit at the wrong moment, after setting up their company at the notary. N26 Business targets the freelancer who invoices in their own name, not the company with its own enterprise number at the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (BCE/KBO).

In practice, if you run an SRL, rule out N26 Business for the company account from the start. Qonto and Revolut Business do open accounts in the name of a legal entity, on presentation of the articles of association and the BCE extract. That is the first filter, before comparing fees.

Do you need a Belgian IBAN for a company account?

A Belgian IBAN is not mandatory in the SEPA zone, but it avoids real friction with the SPF Finances, the ONSS and some Belgian clients. Revolut now issues Belgian IBANs; Qonto stays on a French IBAN.

The reason is administrative. VAT, ONSS social contributions and withholding tax are paid via a structured communication, that block of digits based on the enterprise number (such as +++000/0000/00000+++). An account that does not carry this structured communication handles these recurring transfers poorly, the ones every SRL makes each quarter. A foreign IBAN adds a second friction: in theory every European IBAN is accepted, in practice some debtors and administrations still balk.

Revolut launched Belgian IBANs for its accounts in 2025, which reduces this problem for a company. Qonto provides French, German, Italian and Spanish local IBANs, but not a Belgian one at the time of writing. What this means for you: with Qonto, plan to keep a Belgian account alongside for payments to the administrations.

What about paying ONSS and withholding tax?

Same rules as VAT. ONSS and withholding tax are paid with a structured communication tied to your enterprise number. Settle these from an account able to carry that communication, ideally with a Belgian IBAN, and move the funds a few days before the deadline from your neobank account if needed.

Is Qonto enough as a single account for an SRL?

For a company paying VAT, ONSS and withholding tax regularly, Qonto alone is uncomfortable as long as it stays on a French IBAN without Belgian structured communication. It shines as a management account (invoicing, expense tracking, accounting exports), but needs a Belgian back-up account for the administrations.

How do you manage team cards and expenses?

For an SRL with employees, Revolut Business leads on team management: up to 200 virtual cards per member, per-card limits and built-in receipt approval. Qonto follows with physical and virtual cards plus spending policies and accounting tracking.

The point, for a company, is to frame spending without chasing receipts. You give a dedicated virtual card to each employee or project, set a monthly limit, and every payment comes back with its receipt. No more expense advances reimbursed three months later or expense reports rebuilt from memory.

Take a four-person SRL: one card per employee, plus a virtual card per software subscription, each capped. The director sees in real time who spends what, blocks a card in two clicks, and the export goes to the accountant. On this ground, a single card like N26 Business is not enough.

How much does a company pro account cost per month?

The cheapest on paper is not the cheapest in use. Qonto starts around 9 EUR excl. VAT per month, Revolut Business has a limited free tier then plans from about 10 EUR excl. VAT per month. Among Belgian banks, CBC's Business Pure Online is free and KBC sits around 6 EUR per month.

These prices are often quoted excluding VAT for Qonto and Revolut, and Revolut's free tier limits the number of transfers and cards. For an SRL, the real cost comes mainly from the number of physical cards, the volume of included SEPA transfers and currency conversions, not the headline price.

A detail to watch: a 9 EUR plan that caps transfers can cost more than a higher plan if your company makes many supplier payments. Compare the included transfer quota and the cost of an extra card, not just the base subscription.

Traditional bank or neobank for a company?

For daily use, a pro neobank is faster and cheaper; for financing, a Belgian bank keeps the edge. An investment loan, equipment leasing or a credit line almost always go through BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC or Belfius, the three leaders in business credit in Belgium.

Neobanks open an account online in fifteen minutes and charge little; traditional banks require a branch appointment but build the credit relationship a company needs to grow. An SRL planning to invest therefore benefits from nurturing a Belgian banking relationship early, before needing the financing.

The most solid setup combines both: a main account at a Belgian bank for the local IBAN and credit, plus Qonto or Revolut Business for team cards and daily use. Each account does what it does best.

Which account fits which company profile?

The choice comes down to three criteria: the need for credit, the size of the team and the volume in foreign currencies.

The starting SRL, with no employees and no immediate borrowing plan, can begin with Revolut Business for its Belgian IBAN and virtual cards, then add a Belgian bank the day credit becomes a topic.

The SRL with several employees and many expense reports gets the most from Revolut Business for team management, or Qonto if accounting is the priority, while keeping a Belgian account for the administrations.

The SRL that invests (equipment, vehicles, premises) should place its main account at a Belgian bank for the credit relationship, and use the neobank only as a management tool on the side.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. A Belgian company (SRL, SA, SC) is a legal entity separate from its director and must hold a bank account opened in the company's name, distinct from the director's private account. This account is used to collect turnover, pay suppliers, VAT, social security (ONSS/RSZ) and withholding tax. Mixing private and company accounts creates accounting and tax problems.

No. N26 Business can only be opened in the name of a natural person, meaning a sole trader or a liberal profession. Since an SRL is a legal entity, it cannot open an N26 account in the company's name. For an SRL, the realistic neobank options are Qonto and Revolut Business, which accept legal entities.

At the time of writing, no. Qonto offers French, German, Italian and Spanish local IBANs, but not a Belgian one. For an SRL paying VAT, ONSS and withholding tax via a structured communication based on the company number, a foreign IBAN adds friction. Revolut Business now issues Belgian IBANs, which simplifies local flows.

Prices range from 0 EUR to 25 EUR per month. Qonto starts around 9 EUR excl. VAT per month, Revolut Business has a limited free tier then plans from about 10 EUR excl. VAT per month. Among traditional banks, CBC's Business Pure Online is free and KBC sits around 6 EUR per month. The real cost depends on the number of cards, transfers and currency conversions.

For day-to-day operations (transfers, team cards, invoicing), a pro neobank like Qonto or Revolut Business is faster and cheaper. For an investment loan, leasing or a credit line, a Belgian bank such as BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC or Belfius keeps the edge. Many SRLs combine both: a Belgian bank as the main account, a neobank for cards and daily use.

No. Qonto, Revolut Business and N26 Business provide debit cards linked to the account balance, not a credit card with deferred end-of-month payment. For a business credit card with a credit line, you need a traditional Belgian bank or a dedicated business card issuer.

Revolut Business lets you create up to 200 virtual cards per team member, with per-card limits and built-in receipt approval. Qonto offers physical and virtual cards with spending policies and accounting tracking. For an SRL with several employees, this team management often matters more than the subscription price.

Sophie Laurent spent eight years in retail banking, first as a credit adviser and then in customer relations, before going independent in 2021 and settling in Louvain-la-Neuve. She compares Belgian credit cards, from the traditional banks (ING, BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC, Belfius) to the neobanks (Revolut, N26, Wise), starting from the official fee schedules: annual fee, currency-conversion charges, borrowing rate, limits and bundled insurance. Her rule: a free card is never really free, the cost hides in foreign payments and revolving credit. She saw too many clients sign up for cashback that didn't even cover the annual fee, and she says so.
