Beobank credit card Belgium: which card to choose in 2026?

Extra Mastercard, Q8 World, Visa Gold: full comparison of Beobank credit cards in Belgium. Cashback rates, insurance cover, fees and verdict by profile.

Beobank runs one of the broadest credit card ranges among Belgian banks: seven card families, from a basic card at €5 per year to co-branded Brussels Airlines cards with three Miles tiers. Two things are worth knowing upfront. You do not need a Beobank current account to apply. And the 14.49% APR wipes out any cashback benefit the moment you carry a balance.

For expats living in Belgium, those two points are particularly relevant: you can take a Beobank cashback card without switching your primary bank, and the card works for international purchases like any Belgian Mastercard or Visa.

What credit cards does Beobank offer in 2026?

Beobank groups its cards into three families: cashback (Extra Mastercard, Q8 World Mastercard), travel (Smart Travel, Elite Travel, Flying Blue, Brussels Airlines) and flexible credit (Classic, Gold, Young). The table below covers the four most requested cards.

A note on the bank itself: Beobank NV/SA is not a neobank. It is a full-licence Belgian bank, formerly Citibank Belgium, member of the Crédit Mutuel Nord Europe group since 2016, supervised by the FSMA under licence 19688 A.

Do I need a Beobank current account to apply?

No — and this genuinely sets Beobank apart from most Belgian traditional banks. At ING, BNP Paribas Fortis or KBC, credit cards are tied to the bank's own current account. At Beobank, the credit card is a standalone revolving credit facility repaid by transfer from any Belgian bank account.

For expats, this matters: you can keep your existing Belgian current account (or your Wise or Revolut account used for everyday transfers) and still hold a Beobank cashback card without consolidating everything at one institution.

Can I open a Beobank current account in addition?

Yes. Beobank offers three current account packages (Free Account, Youth Account, Plus Account), all optional alongside a credit card.

Which Beobank card earns the most cashback?

Two cards generate cashback: the Extra Mastercard (1% on all purchases, capped at €100/year, €20 annual fee) and the Q8 World Mastercard (2% at Q8 Belgium, 0.5% elsewhere, capped at €250/year, €5 annual fee). The right choice depends almost entirely on your Q8 usage.

What is the breakeven on the Extra Mastercard?

To recover the €20 annual fee through 1% cashback, you need to spend €2,000 per year, or roughly €167 per month. The maximum net gain is €80/year (€100 cashback minus €20 fee), reached at €10,000 of annual spending. Worth noting: until 30 June 2026, Beobank credits €20 to new card accounts after the first purchase. In the first year, the annual fee is entirely offset, meaning all cashback earned is pure gain.

Is the Q8 World Mastercard worth it outside Q8 stations?

Rarely. Outside Q8, the rate drops to 0.5% — half what the Extra Mastercard pays on every purchase. The Q8 World only outperforms the Extra Mastercard on total net return if you spend more than €4,000 per year specifically at Q8. For most Belgian drivers filling up once a week at around €70, annual Q8 spend is roughly €3,640 — close but not enough to tip the balance.

In practice, the Q8 World makes sense if you have a Q8 station on your daily commute and also buy snacks and coffee there regularly. Otherwise, the Extra Mastercard delivers better annual returns.

Are the Beobank insurance covers useful?

Both cashback cards include three insurance policies arranged by Beobank through Europ Assistance Belgium (VAT BE 0738.431.009): Purchase Insurance (theft or accidental damage, 200 days, up to €3,000/year), Extended Warranty (one additional year beyond the manufacturer's warranty, up to €2,000/claim) and Safe Online (non-delivery or damage on online purchases from EU/US sellers, up to €1,250/claim).

The Q8 World adds a fourth: Rental Vehicle Damage, covering the excess charged under a rental agreement up to €1,000/year (€50 deductible, maximum rental duration 31 days). Useful for a weekend hire, though the €1,000 cap is modest — premium or electric rentals often carry higher excess amounts.

One condition worth flagging: Purchase Insurance requires the item to be paid entirely with the Beobank card. Splitting payment between card and cash on the same transaction disqualifies the whole purchase from cover.

What is the risk with Beobank's revolving credit?

The APR is 14.49% on both the Extra Mastercard (actuarial debit rate 12.83%) and the Q8 World (debit rate 14.01%). On Beobank's representative example — a credit line of €2,600 — paying only the minimum monthly instalment over a year generates interest that comfortably exceeds the maximum €100 cashback.

The rule is the same across all Belgian revolving credit cards, but it is worth stating clearly: Beobank credit cards are only financially beneficial if you repay the full balance every month. Used as a genuine credit facility to smooth spending, they cost considerably more than they return.

Which Beobank card suits which profile?

The Extra Mastercard (€20/year) is the default Beobank card for anyone spending over €2,001 per year who pays in full each month. The uncategorised 1% cashback, three included insurance covers, and the €20 welcome credit valid until 30 June 2026 make it the most versatile card in the range.

The Q8 World Mastercard (€5/year) suits drivers who fill up exclusively at Q8 and accumulate more than €4,000/year at Q8 (fuel plus in-store purchases). This is realistic for a tradesperson or sales representative with a company car, less so for a private individual driving 10,000–15,000 km/year.

The Visa Gold works for those who want a standalone credit reserve of €3,000 to €10,000 — without a Beobank account requirement — and prefer flexible repayment over fixed monthly debits.

For travel cards (Elite Travel, Flying Blue, Brussels Airlines series), fees are not published online. Request a quote at 02-622 20 00 and compare against alternatives such as the Revolut Ultra (€60/month, unlimited lounge access) before committing.

Sophie Laurent spent eight years in retail banking, first as a credit adviser and then in customer relations, before going independent in 2021 and settling in Louvain-la-Neuve. She compares Belgian credit cards, from the traditional banks (ING, BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC, Belfius) to the neobanks (Revolut, N26, Wise), starting from the official fee schedules: annual fee, currency-conversion charges, borrowing rate, limits and bundled insurance. Her rule: a free card is never really free, the cost hides in foreign payments and revolving credit. She saw too many clients sign up for cashback that didn't even cover the annual fee, and she says so.
